We're not ENTIRELY clean.. Lots of people just soak in the tub without scrubbing or washing, and even when we do scrub with a body brush/sponge/loofah, the soap itself leaves a residue that builds up on the towels.
(You can see this residue build up along the inside of the tub as well.)

Same reason you don't want to forget a load in the washer. Water and fabric don't mix very well if mildew smell isn't your cup of tea. They're safe for a couple, 3 days use maximum.
